Restoring WWI Headstones Project

The Friends raise funds to restore the headstones of servicemen and women who served during both World Wars. Because of the amount of time that has passed, these headstones have fallen into disrepair or have become difficult to read.

We’re also working with the Commonwealth War Commission so that servicemen with no headstone, who meet the necessary criteria, can have a Commonwealth War Grave Headstone placed on their grave.

We have three main areas for this section of our website.

Royal Flying Corps 33 Squadron

The Friends have worked to have the headstones of members of the Royal Flying Corps 33 Squadron from the First World War renovated.

Royal Flying Corps

Two further restored headstones from airmen from the Royal Flying Corps.

Commonwealth War Graves

The Friends are working to have Commonwealth War Graves Headstones installed on the graves of servicemen who have no headstones.

WWI Family Headstones

The Friends are raising funds to have the headstones of WWI servicemen, who are remembered on family headstones, restored. These servicemen were either buried abroad or who have no known grave. We’ve restored many headstones already.
