WWI Family Headstones Project

Many servicemen are remembered on family headstones in the General and North Warren cemeteries. In many cases this is because their body was never found.

Some are also remembered on war memorials in Europe, on village war memorials and, church war memorials.

We’ve raised funds to restore over 54 of these headstones and there are over 60 that we have identified with WWI inscriptions.

Peter Bradshaw has compiled a list of these headstones which includes the name, age, occupation, date of death, the memorial or cemetery they are remembered and the inscription from their headstone. The file is in PDF format and you can download it.

There are details about restored headstones in both cemeteries:

General Cemetery

North Warren Cemetery

The West Lindsey Community Chest fund and the Heritage Lottery Fund have both granted us money to be able to restore headstones in the cemetery.
