Harry Baker -Squadron Quarter- Master Sergeant, 10th Royal Hussars

From the “Gainsborough News” 25.4.1902

BAKER- From the effects of wounds received in the South African campaign, the death took place on the 20th April, 1902, of Harry Baker late Squadron Quarter- Master Sergeant, 10th Royal Hussars), son of Mr. John Baker, Clairville, aged 34 years. Interred in the New Cemetery, Gainsborough, April 23rd, 1902.

According to his service records Harry Baker was wounded on 26th March 1900 at Sannah’s Post, 30 km east of Bloemfontein, Orange Free State.

The Baker family lived at “Clairville” – 8 Morton Terrace.

The Friends will be restoring Harry Baker’s headstone.
